Frequently Asked Questions
Does the price include shipping?
No. Shipping costs change quickly. PMJ-USA will provide a shipping cost estimate at the time of quoting.
What is the difference between the RB7 and RB11 shot blasters?
The main difference between the RB11 and RB7 is size, meaning the RB7 is smaller than the RB11. The differences can be checked in the technical data. The second difference is the lack of an overhead suspension in the RB7. The projector and power in both shot blasters are the same. The differences between the devices are very well illustrated in our presentation videos.
How much shot does the shot blaster use and what is the initial fill?
The first fill of shot is about 15 kg, and the shot consumption is about 0.8-1 kg per hour of operation (the shot in the machine is only replenished as it is consumed).
Are machines available off the shelf or are they produced to order?
Due to different control options, machines are produced to the customer's order. The waiting time for a machine ranges from 1 week to 4 weeks. PMJ produces machines very quickly but shipping will take additional weeks. Total lead time is still less than many other suppliers.
What kind of shot is used in the RB11 and RB7 shot blasters?
The machine is dedicated to use round steel shot with grades S090, S110, S170, S230, or its size equivalent in stainless steel. Using 'sharp' broken shot causes a 5-fold increase in wear of consumable parts
Is compressed air required for the shot blaster to operate?
No, compressed air is not needed for the shot blaster to operate.
Can we use abrasive other than steel shot in the shot blaster?
There are no contraindications to using, for example, corundum, but it is not cost-effective (the machine will quickly crush the abrasive, and it will be extracted by the dust collector).
Where can I see the machine in operation and try out how it works?
We have several machines in operation at our facility in Schofield, WI. Please contact us for a demo.
What is the difference between a shot blaster and a sandblaster?
The difference between a shot blaster and a sandblaster lies in the used abrasive and the way of operation. The shot blaster uses metal shot, mainly for the surface treatment of metals, often operating automatically. The sandblaster uses sand or other mineral abrasives for the treatment of various materials, where the sandblasting process is manually done. Additionally, the shot blaster can automatically clean, etch, or prepare surfaces, while in the sandblaster, manual operation by the operator is necessary.
What is a shot blaster used for?
A shot blaster is a device for mechanical cleaning, etching, and strengthening of metal surfaces by shot treatment. It is used to remove rust, paint, contaminants, and to prepare surfaces for painting or coating, as well as to increase the material's fatigue resistance.
